Anis Hadj Moussa named Player of the Month for September

Anis Hadj Moussa has been named Eredivisie Player of the Month for the second time. The Feyenoord forward scored four goals in just two matches in September, while also standing out for his dribbling ability and clinical finishing.

Clinical finishing

Anis Hadj Moussa needed just two matches to make his mark. The 24-year-old Algerian was left out of the squad for Feyenoord's first match of September, a 3-1 away win against N.E.C. Nijmegen, amid transfer speculation. However, he returned to the starting line-up for the following matches against PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht, playing the full 90 minutes in both.

Hadj Moussa scored four goals across those two matches, finishing September as the joint-top scorer alongside teammate Nacho Ferri. The forward from Feyenoord registered seven shots, four of which were on target. Remarkably, all four shots on target resulted in goals.

The underlying statistics further highlight his efficiency. Hadj Moussa scored four goals from an Expected Goals (xG) value of just 0.8. This means he scored 3.2 goals more than expected based on the quality of his chances, the biggest positive difference of any player in September.

A threat with his dribbling too

Hadj Moussa scored twice against both PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht. It was the fifth time in his Eredivisie career that he had scored at least two goals in a single match. With five goals in his last three league appearances, the forward is also the competition's joint-top scorer alongside three other players.

Hadj Moussa was a constant threat beyond his goalscoring contributions. He recorded 28 touches in the opposition penalty area in September, the second-highest total in the Eredivisie. An impressive figure considering he played just two matches, while many of the players around him featured in one or even two more games.

The Algerian also attempted 14 dribbles, completing six successfully. Only three players attempted more dribbles in September.

Awards galore in Rotterdam

This is Anis Hadj Moussa's second Player of the Month award, having previously won the prize in May 2026. The award also went to a Feyenoord player in August, when Gjivai Zechiël was named Player of the Month.

Hadj Moussa is also the third Feyenoord representative to receive an award this week. On Tuesday, Giovanni van Bronckhorst was named Rinus Michels Manager of the Month, while this morning it was announced that Givairo Read had won the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award.

With Hadj Moussa's victory, Feyenoord have completed a clean sweep of all three monthly awards for September. It is the first time this has happened in the awards' ten-year history.

About the award

The Player of the Month and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month awards are based on more than 60 different Opta statistics. These are divided into various categories and weighted according to each player's position. Players can also receive a bonus based on assessments by an expert panel of former players.

These statistics also play a role in determining the Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. Both awards are presented at the end of the season during the Eredivisie Awards.

The Player of the Month and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month awards are an initiative of Eredivisie CV, in collaboration with ESPN, VriendenLoterij and the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
